The vehicle swerved sharply off the interstate and into an abandoned rest area. My heart pounded painfully against my ribs, the sound drowning out the music flowing from the truck’s speakers as the anxiety that gripped my chest constricted. His white-knuckled grip slipped from my sight, shifting to throw open the driver side door. My breathing seized. Please no, I mentally pleaded, my body frozen in place. His cold expression filled my window right before he yanked away the only barrier between me and him.

“Lucie baby,” he cooed sadistically, his hand tightening on my upper arm, “let’s go have some fun…”
